Founded in 1987, the Lemurian Shasta Classic Mountain Bike Race is renowned for its epic loop, huge climbs and long, technical descents. We attempt to create an extremely challenging and difficult Long course, a more modest Intermediate course, and an easier, but techinical short course. In keeping with our “grass roots” mindset, we offer cash prizes and medals in the Long Course Categories, and medals to the winners of other categories. Since all riders support the race equally via their entry fee, we give away a large amount of “schwag” in the most generous post-race raffle around. In addition all racers receive a finishing pin, water bottle and a post-race meal.

Started in 1954, as one of the Rodeo Week activities, the first breakfast served about 700 people. By the late 1950’s, the breakfast had grown to over 1000 participants. The Cowboys used equipment borrowed from many different sources, including the Sheriff’s Department, local churches, and some Redding residents. Breakfast goers often ate their pancakes and sausage on tables made from doors and saw horses “borrowed” from area lumber yards. As the years went by the Cowboys found it necessary to acquire more and more of their own equipment as the breakfast had outgrown the reserve of donated equipment. Starting with tables, the Cowboys began a program of buying or building equipment. Griddles and many chairs and tables later, the undisputed largest outdoor community breakfast in the United States has grown to over 10,000 of our best friends sharing breakfast together rain or shine!!!

The first Redding Rodeo Parade upheld these traditions, including having a western rodeo, movie, or other star as the parade Grand Marshal. Today the parade tradition continues.
